Submit Your Course Materials Requests

The Higher Education Opportunity Act requires that students know the full cost of their courses at the time they register. To ensure UW is in compliance with this law, and to guarantee students have timely access to their materials, be sure to submit all adoptions at least 6 weeks prior to the start of each quarter.

Every quarter, the adoption window opens shortly after the Time Schedule is published. If you are assigned to a course, you will receive an email notification asking you to submit your adoption. Adoptions are necessary even if you are supplying your own materials or not using materials at all.

Course Packs

If you are planning to create a custom course pack to be sold at University Book Store, the team at UW Creative Communications can help. Click here for more information, and to get started.

Once your course pack is finalized, Creative Communications will notify the Book Store. We'll then list it for your course and place an order.

You can notify us in advance that you will be using a course pack that they are producing when you submit your adoption, but they do require that faculty contact Creative Communications directly, so we are unable to coordinate details of the course pack on your behalf. You must notify them each time you are using a course pack, even if it is a re-use with no changes.

UW Libraries

If you are planning to use eBooks provided by the UW Libraries, free online textbooks or Open Educational Resources (OER) in your course, submit this information in your adoption to University Book Store, AND share it with the UW Libraries using this form.

Reporting this information helps the UW Libraries ensure that the library license for these materials is adequate for the number of students enrolled in your course. It also helps the libraries to provide you support with your materials and contribute to campus efforts to save students money on textbooks.

Desk Copies

To request a desk copy of a book you have assigned for your course, you, or someone in your department, must contact the publisher directly - University Book Store is unable to do so on your behalf. Many publishers will allow you to request a desk copy online. Visit the publisher's website, find the title you need, and submit your request. Your sales rep can also help with this process.
