How does Day One Access work?

Instructors who decide to participate in Day One Access will set up course materials in Canvas for student access, either via a link to the publisher's website or the VitalSource LTI tool. Once published, all registered students can access the materials immediately. The balance due will appear on your Accounts page in MyUW by the first day of classes. Payment is required by the posted deadline to maintain access for the entire quarter.

  • ENROLL Register for a participating course.
  • LEARN Access your materials in Canvas when class begins and begin learning immediately.
  • PAY Pay for your materials by the deadline to retain access for the quarter.

Before the quarter starts…

If you are enrolled in a participating course, you will be notified via email. The email will be sent to your UW email address and contains a brief overview of the program, your responsibilities, and which courses and materials are included. Read this email carefully so you know what to expect when classes start. Your materials will be available in Canvas once your instructor publishes the course in Canvas, and the balance due for your materials will appear on the Accounts page in MyUW.

Accessing Your Materials

All materials included in the program are accessible through Canvas. Depending on the type of materials, you may access them through the Day One Access Materials link, or through a publisher link that your instructor has placed in Canvas. Follow the directions your instructor has provided for accessing your materials. You may need to register for an account through VitalSource or the publisher before you can begin using your materials.

Pay for your Materials

  • Log into MyUW and go to your Accounts page
  • Find the UW Day One Access Fees header
  • Click on the button beneath your balance to make a payment
  • Submit your payment through University Book Store

Want to opt out instead?

  • Log into Canvas
  • Click on Day One Access Materials
  • Find the item you want to opt out of and click “Want to opt out?”
  • Access will end within 24-48 hours

IMPORTANT! The cost of your Day One Access materials is NOT included in your tuition balance, and must be paid separately. You are responsible for paying for the materials you wish to keep by the posted deadline every quarter. If no payment is submitted by the deadline, you will be opted out and access to those materials will end.
